Spin’s Gino and Cam on our new scooters in San Francisco.
[Update: See our TechCrunch article.]
At SXSW in Austin last March, Derrick, Zhuang and I introduced the concept of stationless bikeshare to America. Since then, we have launched in over 28 markets including Seattle, Dallas, DC, Miami and campuses including UCSD and just last week, Towson University. We’re on track to grow to over 100 markets by year-end.
Our simple desire to help get around easier has triggered a movement around the country, led by our team of over 30 in cooperation with forward-thinking city and campus officials. Our policy team has helped craft sensible regulations in cities, our product team has crafted a great app and rugged bikes that have served hundreds of thousands of rides, and our R&D team has been busy working on new mobility technology.
We’re excited today to unveil the latest addition to our fleet — electric scooters. The scooters will join our regular bikes and electric bikes to help move people in cities and campuses. We couldn’t be more excited to start rolling out these scooters, which are incredibly fun, fast, and convenient.
The addition of scooters marks the introduction of Spin’s expanded vision as a urban and campus mobility company. Moving forward, our growth will continue to be propelled by the dual trends of new mobility technology and the rise of the sharing economy, and we are on track to be in over 100 markets this year. We’ve also recently announced a new initiative to harness blockchain technology to introduce a set of incentives for our users to responsibly use our shared mobility options.
We look forward to an exciting 2018 and being in a city and campus near you soon.
