Data can be a powerful tool for making change, whether it’s used to challenge assumptions about who is biking in what part of town or to elevate the voices of less affluent residents calling for traffic calming measures despite skepticism by wealthier neighborhoods less affected by speeding.
And it can also support plans already in the works for better infrastructure or show public officials just how popular closing streets to car traffic — and opening them to people — actually are.
Due to the success of last year’s program, we are launching MDSS again and we want to encourage researchers, city officials, and activists alike to apply for the chance to be awarded a suite of data tools that can help them, like the organizations we heard from during the webinar, make the case for safer streets.
You can watch the webinar or read our “MDSS 2020: Lessons Learned” report produced in partnership with the Consumer Energy Interfaces Lab (cEnergi) at UC Davis Institute of Transportation Studies to get a better idea of what our last group of awardees did with the tools for inspiration.
We are looking forward to hearing from you about how we can help you make your streets safer for all!
