Spin has enjoyed a tremendous July and August, being the first national stationless bikeshare to launch in Seattle, South San Francisco and Dallas.
We’re growing quickly, and are in final discussions with a host of cities and campuses across America. In every market, our policy team plays a leading role in collaborating with local regulators and officials.
Recently, we’ve seen rogue (often, foreign) companies attempt covert deployments in Miami and San Diego, and engaging in behavior that is disruptive to local communities.
As the original stationless bikeshare company in America, we believe that stationless bikeshare has great potential to improve the fabric of American cities. At the same time, we believe operators should respect local regulations and work collaboratively with local governments.
This week, we received bipartisan support for potentially expanding New York City’s transportation network, based on our track record as the nation’s leading stationless bikeshare company. We were also industry leaders in crafting a first-of-its-kind stationless bikeshare permit with the Seattle DOT, and are leading conversation with cities all throughout the country.
We have four core values at Spin — collaboration, responsibility, community and philanthropy — which we have outlined here.
As proud members of the the North American Bikeshare Asocciation (NABSA), we call on all bikeshare companies, station or stationless, foreign or local, to subscribe to these same core values. We’ll be encouraging our cousins to adopt these values at the Annual NABSA Conference.
Bikeshare companies are doing amazing work by making biking accessible, and it’s on all of us to make sure we are responsible about it.
