Legislation being considered in the Florida legislature would preempt cities’ and towns’ ability to have a say in how dockless bikeshare operates in their communities. Unfortunately, this is part of a national campaign that seeks to upend precedence and local authority.
Spin opposes any legislation that preempt towns, cities, and even campuses from having a say in how bikeshare operates in their own communities. We believe communities deserve to have a voice — as well as a seat at the table — when it comes to bikeshare.
As the nation’s leading stationless bikeshare company, Spin currently operates in over two-dozen markets, and we are expanding rapidly over the country. Our growth, and the sustainable mobility movement we have fostered across cities and campuses, would not have been possible without partnering with each jurisdiction we are in.
Our desire and ability to work closely with our city and campus partners allow us to create a successful mobility solution tailored for the community. In fact, Spin believes that ensuring local communities have a say in how bikeshare operates within their borders and on its right-of-way is both needed and beneficial, for communities and industry alike.
It is why Spin believes it is vital that our industry partners commit to:
- working with local governments to develop meaningful regulations for their community, and
- highlighting the importance of respecting local control over bikeshare.
Spin is proud to have joined the North American Bikeshare Association in letters of opposition to the Florida House of Representatives and Senate. We will continue to oppose any attempts to introduce similarly unwise legislation across the country.
