Spin Spotlight: Meet the Spin en español Employee Network
Each year, Hispanic and Latinx Heritage Month takes place from September 15 to October 15 to recognize and celebrate the histories, cultures, and contributions of American citizens whose ancestors came from Spain, Mexico, the Caribbean, and Central and South America.
This year at Spin, we’re celebrating by giving our Spin en español Employee Network — an employee resource group dedicated to building community and connection — a platform to share their stories.
We spoke with members of the network to discuss the impact of their heritage on their careers, their favorite local businesses and restaurants, and the causes and issues they care about most.
Without further ado, meet the Spin en español Employee Network:
What are you most proud of about your heritage?
“I’m most proud of the contributions Puerto Ricans have made to Latin culture through music. From reggaeton to salsa, we keep the world moving despacito.” — Jean Carlos de Jesus, Senior Operations Manager
“I’m proud that I will always carry my heritage with me and it’s part of my DNA. I’m proud of how we’re a hardworking culture.” — Vivian Myrtetus, Government Partnerships Manager East
How has your heritage impacted your career?
“Being a minority in the tech world is not always easy, and I have faced many challenges because of my heritage. However, I use what I’ve learned from those challenges to allow me to help others who may be struggling in the tech world the same way I did.” — Luis Roberto Gomez, Workforce Operations Manager
“My heritage has taught me to work hard, never stop growing, and set ambitious goals. Even during difficult times, echa pa’lante.” — Jean Carlos de Jesus, Senior Operations Manager
What is your favorite restaurant?
“La Cumbre Taqueria in San Mateo, CA. My go to spot for a good chicken burrito!” — Tim Ramos, Hardware Configuration Manager
“El Molino Central in Sonoma, CA. Real authentic Mexican food.” — Daniel Trevino, Product Ops Manager
What is a small business we should know about?
“CubaVera is based in Miami and sells traditional guayabera shirts. They remind me so much of my grandfather.” — Vivian Myrtetus
“Nepantla Cultural Arts Gallery in West Seattle. This small family-owned arts gallery is special to me because art is such an important component of one’s identity and heritage. Nepantla promotes works of art created by people of color which focus on marginalized communities and communities of color.” — Jean Carlos de Jesus
What causes are you most passionate about?
I’m passionate about fighting for United Farm Workers’ rights. We need to pay, protect and honor each one of them for their hard work and sacrifices.” — Tim Ramos
“I’m passionate about supporting young Hispanics and ensuring they have opportunities. I support the Hispanic Scholarship Fund which is designed to assist students of Hispanic heritage obtain a university degree.” — Vivian Myrtetus
